My present carrier suits my nature and I think I could be successful in this line only. Although I like other lines also, which if I could have given full time and energy from the beginning itself, I might have been more successful. But my advice to others is also the same, i.e. chose a job which best suits your nature and not what is your wish. Your wishes may change frequently with the process of time, but your nature is fixed, like the colour of your skin, eyes etc. Therefore, you will be most comfortable with the job conforming to your nature and you will not appear to be making any painful efforts to succeed in life.
You have to be able to get along with people. You have to be a good judge of personalities to make sure that the people working under you are going to be able to work effectively together. You have to make sure you know what you're looking for when you hire someone. Have a clear idea of the skill set you are looking for. If you have a bunch of qualified applicants, you should then look at less tangible qualities. What does their work ethic seem to be? Will they get along with your current employees?
You have to be able to solve problems and conflicts, delegate projects and fire people. Firing people is the hardest part of this job. You have to be strong enough to let people go if they're not working out.
If you love people and you can handle being picky about the people you hire, this would be a great career for you.
I have been fortunate enough to work for a company that is very flexible. The field itself is always busy as something always needs to be completed. If you are not a book/computer person, this really isn't the position for you. Human interaction usually involves only your co-workers, not customers. For people who don't like dealing with customers, this is a great field. I think I would probably do this field again, although if I was starting over from scratch with what I knew now, I would pursue what I really wanted to do, vet medicine, and not have worried about how long it would take to complete.
