I like the accounting career, but it depends on the industry and kind of tasks you perform. It is interesting if you work in an industry where you can have the opportunity tu suggest ideas and take some importants desicions. This carrer use to be some kind of routine, that is why I recommend to find companies where the industry is fun, rewarding and where there is something new to learn, discover and resolve. I am considering to use the skills I have got with this career to have my own business, I think it could be better, also consulting and auditing.
My current position is that of an accountant in the Inventory department of a major state university.
I would recommend this position to someone who likes alot of "dead time" during the year. During the months of September and October while the Accounting department is closing out the year my work stops. Then during the week between Christmas and New Year the university is closed. The down side is that you are paid on the very low side of the pay scale. Also, you have to be there during those "dead times"
But, from a retirement standpoint, once you hit the magic number of 95 which is at least 55 years old plus your length of service in months you can retire with full benefits. This is usually 60% of your base pay plus medical benefits for you.
Although I did not study accounting in college I think it is a good career choice. The pay is good and there is an abudance of jobs. I would mainly recommend going to school for this career, so they can advance quickly. I would recommend this career. I would still go into this career, but as I said earlier I would have studied for it, so I can advance more quickly. What you need to know is you don't have to be great with numbers to sucessfully work in accounting. It probably helps but it is not necessary.
Its a great career for people who love to work with numbers and talk money. A few people find it boring as they seem it to be repetitive but the key to enjoy this career is to dig deeper and still deeper.
yes i would recommended them . yes i will stillchoose the same career . its sometime gets very boring and repeatitive. but its a highly rewarding career now a days . one thing i will like to tell the aspirants of this career is that , that they might have to do some things which dont even think of doing. thankyou
You must have excellent analytical and problem solving skills to be involved in this career. So far I have loved everything about it, but it is only for those of us who can handle high levels of stress. I would absolutely reccomend this career to anyone who meets the above criteria and would still choose this career if I had to do it all over again. What you need to know that you might not know is that you don't have to have excellent math skills in order to do well in this career. You have to be able to analyze and figure out problems, but they don't always necessarily have to do with math. Some pros would be great experiences, looks good on a resume, and it is a fun field to work in. Some cons would be that at times it can be very stressful if you can't figure a problem out.
It is not one of the most glamorous jobs but if you like math, you might want to decide a career in it. Right now, it is a growth industry and it is easy to get a job especially if you have the skill. Although it is low paying if you end up with a auditing firm, you will learn a lot and it will pay off in the future with higher pay. Definitely everyone needs an accountant. I definitely look my job even if I am just counting the money of others.
if I had to do it over again i would not choose this career. I would have chosen a career that pair less but would have been more personally more rewarding to me.
Accounting is extremely boring. But the pay is not so bad.
Lots and lots of monotous number crunching five days a week. Around tax season, you can easily put in 60-80 hours a week. I've learned a lot in this area of business, especially paying attention to minute details. One small mistake can definitely have a ripple effect in the Accounting world.
boring career wouldnt go into it again people should be aware that it takes a lot of time to qualify (in europe anyway)..first you primary degree then professional exams and then 3 years of supervised industry experience..not worth it
Advice for people going into this career - prepare for a lot of regulations (it's not math like most people think) - pick an area to focus in (specilize in something). Know that there will be peak times (year end, month end, tax season) and prepare to give up a lot of holidays, vacations around those peak times.
If I had to do it over again I would still become a CPA. The pros are there are many different areas you can specialize in. Once you have experience, there are part time and flexible work opportunites. The cons are to be a CPA you need 150 semester hours (at least in NC) which is more than an undergraduate degree. It is difficult to pass the CPA exam
At the age of nine, I decided my career choice of accountancy. Whether or not it was my love of math or the desire to be like my favorite aunt, I made my decision and have carried it out. I would recommend this career path to any individual who enjoys puzzles of numbers, multi-tasking, the innate ability to understand debits and credits and listening to clients' needs and goals. What they do not teach you in college about the field, is the customer service aspect. It is not just about producing Financial Statments and reconciling bank statements. It is about providing the client a service that they can rely on. The extra hours that are required in order to satisfy the client and/or meet certain deadlines may be difficult to accept, but it is a great field for a career minded individual. Knowing what I know now after being in the field for over eight years, I would choose the same path again.
I highly recomment accountancy as a career choice. The ability to find work is great...everyone needs an accountant. There are many different types of accounting specialties to choose from, and most pay well. Accounting careers offer good pay and stability.
I enjoy working independently and I enjoy problem solving, so for me, accounting is ideal. I like to sit at my desk an quietly figure out problems. I do communicate with other staff, but mostly, I'm on my own. I enjoy working with spreadsheets and can pick up quickly on new computer programs. Computer literacy is a must. Sometimes during deadlines I have had to work as late as 10pm or 11pm, but mostly I am able to control my schedule so that some nights I work a little late, some nights I leave on time. I would choose this career again if given the chance.
If you like to work with numbers and have some creative abilities as well this might be for you. I would recomend this career because there are many ways you can use the skills set in accounting. It is a very flexible job as every business needs to keep it's books. Therefore there are always jobs available. The pro's of this job are advancement potential within companies and you can have a great impact on small business and there operating future. The con's of this job are that there is some tasks that are repetitive and the job is usually very sedintary. I have enjoyed this career path because it has offered me the flexibility to work for myself or others and the need arises. If you like working with spreadsheets this career could be for you.
I highly recommend internships. That is a great way to find out whether or not you like a job. I knew I loved Finance, but a professor told me Accountants had jobs and Finance majors didn't. So I plugged away in Accounting and struggled a lot. Of course I hated it and eventually moved on to work for a small business and ended up managing it. Now, accounting sure comes in handy for any small business. So if you are unsure, your Accounting degree will definately land you a job, but be sure to follow a career you love. That's the only way to be successful and happy. I am now moving on to be a Financial Planner. I like to see money working for people more than corporations.
